STEAM Learning at Our School

STEAM represents Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths

STEM – We have been completing our STEM workshops with Fiona Brennan we were focusing on engineering. We explored rockets in motion. Lots of classes have been doing very cool science experiments and we have put together a powerpoint with all our experiments which we will share with you.

As part of Curious Minds we went to Shannon Aviation Centre, classes enjoyed the tour and dressing up as pilots and flying the planes.
We had fun workshops with Lindsey Deely from Toodlelou – students made more rockets and had a really cool rocket launch outside.

The A in STEAM is for Art and in the primary side of the school we have been taking part in a Creative Cluster with 3 other schools – classes have taken part in dance workshops and on the 19th March were part of a flash mob on Parnell Street. Other classes are taking part in drumming workshops and will take part in a drumming performance with the other schools. We also took art in workshops that explored underwater sounds with Slavek Kwi and we had a day of biodiversity on Ballyalla Lake.
As part of Creative February we had lots of Creative events happening around the school, this included puppet shows and bubble workshops, children looked at assembling and making their own puppets and they tired different ways of making bubbles.
Lots of the junior classes are taking part in Coding lessons, we have Chromebooks and Beebots in school and we regularly use our STEAM kits.
We organised STEAM challenges with classes and we are doing this regularly we use Full STEAM Ahead e-zines as our inspiration.
