Creative Clusters

Fostering Inclusion Through the Arts

We were delighted to continue our participation in the Creative Clusters programme last year, alongside our partner schools: CBS, Scoil Chríost Rí, and E.E.T.N.S. While this initiative is rooted in creativity and artistic expression, we also use it as a powerful opportunity to promote inclusion and peer engagement across our wider school community.
Two years ago, pupils took part in drumming and dance workshops, culminating in a joyful flashmob performance that celebrated collaboration and creativity. You can view highlights from past events at https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/creativecluster

Last year’s theme was Climate Change, inspired by the exhibition in Glór and led by artist Evelyn Sorohan Daly. Pupils engaged in workshops which explored underwater soundscapes using sonography equipment. Pupils listened to recordings of underwater creatures and used a water tank to replicate sounds of objects submerged in water. This sensory-rich experience was suitable for all classes and offered a unique way to engage with the Climate Change theme.
Additionally, we were delighted to receive an original piece of art on loan from the Glucksman Library in UCC on January 27th 2025. This exhibition was specifically curated for special schools, and included lesson plans and supporting literature. We invited classes from our Creative Cluster to view the piece and participate in group activities, offering another opportunity for peer engagement and creative exploration.
To conclude our 2 year Creative Cluster Programme classes went to Ballyalla Lake to kayak with other schools, other on shore activities including exploring biodiversity in the local environment with Heritage in Schools and Wellbeing with Rosie from Shannon Estuary Way Retreat as well as clay art activities and a lake side walk.
